Republic’s eight seniors celebrated Senior Night with an 8–5 comeback victory over Marshfield on Wednesday, before falling to Springfield Catholic 8–2 in Thursday’s regular season finale.
Against Marshfield, the Tigers honored Nolan Coble, Ryder Davis, Cannon Ellison, Mason Fleetwood, Carter Murray, Jackson Overstreet, Ryder Smith, and Isaac White. All eight took the field to start the game, including Davis, who was introduced but left before the first pitch because of an injury.
After Marshfield took an early 2–0 lead on Braden Jensen’s homer, Republic quickly responded. The Tigers grabbed the lead in the second inning on Ellison’s sacrifice fly and gradually built their advantage, breaking things open with a three-run sixth inning.
Ellison earned the win with five solid innings, while Overstreet reached base three times to lead the offense. Zayden Danielson added two hits in the victory.
“They’re a hardworking group,” coach Curt Plotner said of his seniors. “We’ve had struggles at times this year, but they’ve just persevered and they’ve kept playing hard. I was really happy they were able to get a win tonight.”
In Thursday’s finale against Catholic, Republic took an early 2–0 lead on hits from Overstreet and White, but the Irish responded with four runs in the fourth inning and four more in the sixth. Brennan Overstreet took the tough-luck loss despite not allowing an earned run through four innings.
Republic enters district play with a 15–15 record. They’ll open against Nixa.
