A Republic School District employee and founder of the charitable organization Tristen’s Hope has been fired from the school district following alleged inappropriate communication with a minor.
Jason Shaw was a bus driver with the district prior to the incident that led to his termination. The Republic Police Department is currently conducting an investigation of the matter.
“The Republic Police Department is aware of the information being circulated involving alleged inappropriate contact with a minor,” said Republic Police Chief Brian Sells. “We are pursuing all leads and evidence to obtain the facts of the case, and we aim to ensure a fair and thorough investigative process while maintaining the privacy of everyone involved.”
Shaw also resigned from his position in the Tristen’s Hope non-profit organization, which he founded.
Tristen’s Hope was created following the suicide of Shaw’s son and is intended to offer resources for those of any age struggling with suicidal thoughts. Tristen’s Hope’s board of directors released a statement after Shaw’s resignation.
“In the commitment to transparency and clarity we must share an important update regarding the founder of Tristen’s Hope Foundation.
Jason offered his resignation and the board unanimously approved immediately. We as a board take all inappropriate behavior seriously and our priority is the well-being of our students associated within the community of Republic.
All future Tristen’s Hope Foundation events have been canceled.
We recognize that there is a large need within the community and the board continues to stand behind the mission of the organization which is to continue to show each other love, respect and care.”
Republic School District also released a statement on Dec. 12, which said the district terminated Shaw immediately and ceased all affiliation with Tristen’s Hope.
“The Republic School District has been made aware of innappropriate communication by an employee. We take these issues very seriously. The district took immediate action and followed policy and procedure. As a result of a thorough investigation, the employee in question has been terminated.
