RPD to get $85k worth of new portable radios
Thanks to an upcoming change by City Utilities, moving from an 800mhz system to a P25 communication system, the portable radios used by the Republic Police Department will soon be obsolete.
Like Sheriff Buford T. Justice in hot pursuit, RPD’s Lieutenant of Operations Jamie Burks made a formal request to the Republic City Council for 29 new Motorola portable radios totaling $85,816.20, before it was too late. The council members complied, granting the purchase at the council’s Oct. 20 meeting, thereby circumventing a failure to communicate.

The council, in the absence of member Garry Wilson, Ward 2, voted 7-0:
- In favor of entering into an agreement with the city of Springfield for a consolidated police records management system;
- Determining the intent to reimburse itself for certain capital expenditures in connection with improvements to its combined waterworks and sewer system.
On a vote of 6-0, with council member Gerry Pool abstaining, the council authorized a renewal application for hall provider of bingo premises at the Republic Senior Center.
