That’s a winner; Ash Grove rolls to Dig Pink championship victory

The Ash Grove High School volleyball team traveled to Pleasant Hope on Saturday, Oct. 10 to take part in their Dig Pink Invitational and came home with the championship after taking first place in the tournament.
The Lady Pirates were not only dominant in the tournament, they were undefeated, going 3-0 in pool play with wins over Marionville (25-18 and 25-19), Plato (25-16 and 25-15) and Conway (25-12 and 25-15).
On the bracket side of the tournament, Ash Grove knocked off Greenfield in two sets, 25-14 and 25-15. They then defeated Crane in the semifinals in three sets, 23-25, 25-20 and 25-22 before knocking off tournament host Pleasant Hope in the championship game in three sets; 19-25, 25-20 and 25-17. Throughout the entire tournament, the Lady Pirates dropped just two sets.
“It was a long day where these young ladies proved that every second counts,” said head coach Diana Dreier. “Both myself and Coach Lina Langley are super proud of their hard work from the day, and how they continued to push through and work as a team.”
Earlier in the week, the Lady Pirates hosted but lost to Miller in four sets on Tuesday, Oct. 6, 18-25, 25-18, 18-25 and 22-25.
Ash Grove is now 12-8-3 on the season and will have a busy week as they were scheduled to travel to Pierce City, Monday, host Marionville on Tuesday, and Lockwood tomorrow before heading back out on the road to take part in the Sparta Invitational on Saturday.
Football
In football, the Pirates had their game postponed against Greenfield on Friday, Oct. 9, when Greenfield could not field a team for the game. Ash Grove remains 3-3 on the season and in fifth place in the Class 1, district 4 standings.
Marionville leads the district with 49.99 points, followed by Lockwood (44.84 points), Pierce City (38.69 points), Cabool (38 points), Ash Grove (33.14 points), Diamond (25.67 points), Miller (20.2 points) and Greenfield (15.15 points).
Ash Grove will host a tough Marionville Comet team this Friday night.
