Velma Lee Hayter Shuler

Velma Lee Hayter Shuler, 90, of Walnut Grove, passed away Friday, Jan. 15, 2021. She was born Sept. 16, 1930, in Eudora, to James C. and Nellie M. (Wilson) Hayter. On June 12, 1947, Velma Lee and Ira Levon Shuler were united in marriage and shared over 43 years together before Levon’s passing in 1990. Shuler was a lifelong area resident. Shuler gave her life to Christ as a child at the Eudora Baptist Church. Shuler is survived by her children, Linda Degraffenreid and husband Randy of Texas, Judy Shuler Jenkins of Bolivar, Shirley Bagley and husband Cecil of Ash Grove, Connie Garrison and husband David of Springfield, Ronnie Shuler and wife Marla of Billings, Tommy Shuler and wife Kitsey of Walnut Grove, Donnie Shuler and wife Connie of Walnut Grove; daughter-in-law, Teresa Shuler; 23 grandchildren; 37 great-grandchildren; sister Maxine Killingsworth; other family and many friends.Shuler is preceded in death by her husband, Levon Shuler; son, Ricky Dale Shuler; grandchildren, Derick Shuler and Emily Shuler; and brother, Louis Hayter. Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. Friday, Jan. 22, 2021 at Wilson-Griffin Funeral Home, Walnut Grove. Funeral services will be at 1 p.m., Saturday, Jan. 23, 2021 at Walnut Grove First Baptist Churchwith burial to follow at Greenlawn Cemetery, Walnut Grove. In lieu of flowers memorial donations can be made to Walnut Grove First Baptist Church and may be left at the funeral home.
