Welsh accused of domestic assault, given restraining order
An Ash Grove native is currently free on his own recognizance after being arrested for allegedly striking a woman at his residence. Kyle D. Welsh, 37, is charged with one count of Third-Degree Domestic Assault.
According to the probable cause statement in the case, a deputy with the Greene County Sheriff’s Office was dispatched to Welsh’s residence in the early hours of Sunday, Oct. 4, after dispatch received a 911 text from a woman claiming to have been beaten up and her nose was broken; the woman also said in the text that she could not come to the phone.
When the deputy arrived at the residence, he attempted to make contact with the residents, but no one would come to the front door. Due to the nature of the text, the deputy entered the house, made a quick safety sweep and located Welsh and the woman in the master bedroom. Welsh was then detained in handcuffs.
The deputy spoke to the woman, who was described as bleeding from a golfball-sized bruise on her left cheek. Her nose was also bruised.
The woman told the deputy that she had been looking for her keys all night but couldn’t find them. She attempted to wake Welsh up “violently” to help her find her keys by shaking him, and at that point, she said, Welsh jumped up from his sleep and punched her “with a closed fist.” He then went back to sleep shortly thereafter. The woman also told the deputy that she messaged 911 because she was afraid “of how (Welsh) would react after punching her, and she believed he would become more violent.”
After reading Welsh his Miranda Rights, the deputy asked him about the alleged assault. Welsh reportedly asked the deputy, “What do you mean?” The deputy stated Welsh was evasive in answering questions about the alleged assault, and then refused to answer any more questions.
Welsh was taken to the Greene County Jail. According to online records, he was released on his own recognizance under Pre-Trial Services supervision on Thursday, Oct. 8, with the following conditions:
He is to comply with all conditions of felony probation and drug court, not possess or consume alcohol or controlled substances, have no contact with victim and not to be within 1000 feet of her residence or place of employment or education.
Before being released, Welsh stated he would be living with his parents in Ash Grove. Per the court, he is also not to leave their house except for work, treatment, court appearances, or meeting with counsel. He is also allowed to travel once a week to Pennington’s Supermarket. According to the probable cause statement, Welsh is currently on probation for domestic assault.
