Willard Lady Tigers on the road fall to Nixa Lady Eagles
Tigers and Lady Tigers both competing at Pittsburg, Kan. tourney this week
The Willard High School girls’ basketball team traveled to Nixa last week and came home with a loss.
The Lady Tigers played the Lady Eagles Monday, Jan. 10, and was bested by the host squad, 80-56.
If you take away the first quarter of the game, Willard played Nixa extremely close. Nixa got out to a 30-15 first quarter lead and increased that lead to 45-27 by halftime. The Lady Tigers played well in the second half only getting outscored 18-16 in the third quarter and 17-14 in the fourth quarter.
“A tough offensive first quarter really hurt our chances tonight,” said head coach J. J. Adamson. “Nixa was able to get a substantial lead in the first quarter and it was tough for us to overcome that lead the rest of the way. I give our young ladies credit, however. They kept playing hard and fighting all the way through.”
Carolina Crawford led Willard with 18 points in the loss.
Willard was supposed to have played at Neosho on Thursday, Jan. 13, but that game was rescheduled.
The Lady Tigers are now 5-5 on the season and were scheduled to travel to Neosho on Tuesday night, before going to Pittsburg, Kan. to take part in their tournament from Thursday through Saturday.
Boys
The boys’ team is currently 9-5 on the season and had their game at Neosho postponed and rescheduled for Monday night, before they also head to Pittsburg, Kan., to take part in their tournament from Thursday through Saturday.
