Willard Lady Tigers take third at Rogersville Lady Classic

The Willard High School girls basketball team trav- eled to Rogersville to take part in the Rogersville Lady Classic and the boys team hosted Bolivar on Jan. 18.
The Lady Tigers finished third at the Rogersville Ladies Classic, after knock- ing off Springfield Central 50-36 Jan. 18. Willard lost to Rogersville in the semi- finals, 58-44 Jan. 17 but defeated Marshfield 60-29 in their opening round game Jan. 14.
Against Marshfield, Wil- lard jumped out to a 19-6 first quarter lead and just cruised to the win. The Lady
Tigers outscored Marshfield, 17-5 in the second quarter and 18-12 in the third quar- ter. Both teams scored six points apiece in the fourth quarter.
“I was very proud of how our young ladies played Monday night against the Lady Jays. I thought our defensive intensity and of- fensive tempo were as good as we’ve seen since the Pink and White Lady Clas- sic,” said head coach J. J. Adamson.
Kaitlyn Burson led Wil- lard with 20 points; Meghan Mahan added 13 points and Krystalynn Melton had 10 points in the win.
Willard was scheduled
to host Hillcrest on Monday

Boys
For the Willard boys, the Tigers got 45 points from Daniel Abreu and Maurice Grayer added 11 points in Willard’s 63-45 win over Bolivar Jan. 18.
“I felt like we did a great job on the defensive end of the floor,” said head coach Jeremy Draessler. “Bolivar is very well coached and they play extremely hard, so I was glad to see us come out and be the aggressors and fly around the floor on our defensive rotations trying to affect as many perimeter shots as possible. Bolivar has one of the best motion offenses in the area and I was very proud of our guys’ effort and focus through all four quarters of the ball game. On the offensive end of the floor, Abreu had a monster game. He did a great job be- ing a three level scorer, but his teammates did an even better job being in attack mode and then giving Daniel the ball in positions where he can succeed.”
Willard will travel to Nixa this week to compete in Nixa’s Tournament. The tournament is scheduled to begin Jan. 24 and will conclude Jan. 26.
