Willard softball continues to dominate

Despite home field advantage Tiger football loses to Neosho in lopsided affair
 
The Class 4, fifth ranked, Willard High School softball team traveled to Springfield on Saturday, Oct. 4 and Friday, Oct. 3 to compete in the Springfield Tournament and came home with a 5-0 record.
On Saturday, Willard defeated Columbia Battle, 4-2, scoring two runs in the first and fifth innings. Riley Shank was 1-2 with a double in the win. The Lady Tigers knocked off Bolivar 8-7 in one of their closest games of the tournament. Alivia Arauz was 1-3 with a home run, run scored and an RBI, Kynlee Inman went 2-2 with a doble and four RBIs and Paxtyn Piper was 1-3 with a double and two runs scored. In the final game of the day, Willard defeated Park Hill South, 7-2. Piper was 2-2 with two doubles, a run scored and four RBIs, Shank went 1-2 with a double and an RBI and Inman finished 1-2 with a double and an RBI.
The Lady Tigers defeated Sullivan 2-1 on Friday night, scoring their runs in the second and fourth innings. DeLaney Dixon got the win, going seven innings, allowing one run on two hits with five strikeouts. In their other game on Friday night, Willard defeated West Plains 15-0. The Lady Tigers scored three runs in the first inning seven runs in the second inning, four runs in the third inning and one run in the fourth inning. Payton Hicks went 3-3 with two runs scored and four RBIs and Shank finished 2-3 with a double and three RBIs.
On Thursday, Oct. 2, the Lady Tigers hosted Neosho and watched Callie Ebert throw a masterful game, allowing just three hits with nine strikeouts in the Lady Tigers 1-0 victory. Willard scored their lone run in the bottom of the fifth inning, driven in by Ebert,
Willard started the week by traveling to Webb City on Tuesday, Sept. 30 and came home with a 4-3 come-from-behind victory. Arauz was 2-4 with two RBIs and Hicks went 2-4 with a double and an RBI. DeLaney got the win, going seven innings, allowing three runs on five hits with five strikeouts.
The Lady Tigers improved to 22-4 on the season and were scheduled to host Carthage on Monday night before heading to Joplin last night and then Rolla this weekend for the FCNB Rolla Softball Invitational.

Football
The Willard High School football team hosted Neosho on Friday night and lost to the Wildcats 55-27. Neosho led 14-0 after the first quarter, 28-19 at the half and 42-27 by the end of the third quarter.
Tyler Davis was 21-23 for 235 yards and two touchdowns, Jonathan Huskisson Jr. had 31 yards on six carries and 125 yards receiving on 10 catches. Dylan Guynn had five catches for 59 yards and a touchdown and Colbee Maxwell had 33 yards on four catches and a touchdown.
Willard drops to 1-5 on the season and will play at Class 5, second ranked Webb City this Friday night. Willard is still in seventh place in the Class 5, District 6 standings with 19.17 points. Republic sits in first place with 46,83 points, followed by Carthage (45.5), Neosho (42.5), Webb City (41.83), Branson (37.62), Parkview (25) and Willard.    

Volleyball
The Willard High School volleyball team played two games last week, losing at Webb City in five sets on Thursday night and defeating Parkview in Springfield in three sets.
The Lady Tigers are 15-7-2 on the season and were scheduled to play at Fair Grove on Monday night, at home against Neosho last night, at Joplin tomorrow night and at Lebanon on Saturday in the Lebanon Pink Fest Tournament.

Soccer
The Tigers soccer team continues to play well as they hosted and defeated Springfield Central 1-0 on Thursday night and traveled to and defeated Lebanon 8-0 on Tuesday night.
Willard is 13-4 on the season and were scheduled to travel to Glendale last night and Parkview tomorrow night.
