Willard volleyball finishes second in Lori Endicott Tournament, now 26-4 as finale nears

In volleyball, the Lady Tiers hosted their annual Lori Endicott Tournament, on Saturday, October 12, but fell to Rogersville in the championship game to finish in second place.
Rogersville was able to avenge an earlier loss to Willard, by knocking off the Lady Tigers in two sets, 25-17 and 25-15. Ashton Wildermuth led Willard with 14 assists; Kindall Simmons led with eight digs and Emily Terry and Ashton Lasher each led with five digs.
“They are a really great team,” said head coach Jamalee Hancock. “We knew trying to beat them twice in one season would be a challenge and it was. We struggled in a few rotations and dug a hole in the second set that we weren’t able to climb out of.”
Willard reached the championship game by knocking off Webb City in straights sets, 25-14 and 25-16. Maddy Bushnell led with nine kills, while Terry added six kills in the win.
Willard went undefeated in pool play, beating Aurora
25-17 and 25-11 and Stockton 25-16 and 25-15. The Lady Tigers game against was Winona was called due to Winona not having enough players to compete.
“Overall the girls played well throughout the tournament,” said Hancock.
Earlier in the week, Willard hosted Carthage on Thursday, Oct. 10, but lost in three sets and the Lady Tigers traveled to Republic on Tuesday, Oct. 8, and came home with a straight set victory.
Willard is now 26-4 on the season and were scheduled to travel to powerhouse
Ozark on Tuesday night and Joplin tomorrow night.
