Bois D’Arc man allegedly fired at man he claimed was trying “to get” with woman, assaults others
A Bois D’Arc man was arrested on Sunday, Oct. 13, after he allegedly tried to shoot a man. William Nathan Woolford is charged with second degree domestic assault, first degree assault, shooting a firearm at a person, two counts of armed criminal action and two counts of unlawful use of a weapon.
Victim said Woolford shot at him
According to the probable cause statement in the case, the first victim called 911 and reported that Woolford had shot at him after accusing him of “trying to get” with a woman with whom he (Woolford) was involved. He also said that Woolford and the woman were “involved in an assault.”
Greene County Deputy Sheriffs arrived on the scene and found Woolford in a pickup truck in the back yard of the residence. Woolford allegedly refused to follow their commands to leave the truck and had to be physically removed. The deputies also observed blood and scratches on Woolford’s hands and a shotgun in the grass near where Woolford was found.
Witnesses, other victims tried to keep Woolford from hurting woman
The deputies interviewed two witnesses on the scene; they said that Woolford held the woman he claimed that the first victim was “trying to get with” by the throat and breast, and that he assaulted her.
One of the witnesses, as well as the first victim and a third man told deputies that they attempted to break up the fight between Woolford and the woman, but they were unsuccessful at separating them and keeping the separated. The witness said Woolford grabbed a gun in the kitchen, but the first victim managed to get it away from him.
The first victim was talking with the third man outside when the woman exited the house and told them that Woolford was loading a gun. Upon hearing that, the first victim said, he started running down the road away from the house. He then heard a gunshot, so he dropped to the ground; he also reported hearing bullets fly in the air above his head. He then hid in the bushes by the road and called 911. He also later reported that when he tried to keep Woolford away from the woman, Woolford threw him across the room and into a dog cage.
Woman told deputies Woolford grabbed her by her throat
The woman later told deputies that Woolford grabbed her by the throat, and that she’d injured her wrist during the altercation, and there was blood in her hair. Later, after being treated for minor injuries, she told a detective that she didn’t remember what happened after Woolford grabbed her by the throat because she blacked out.
Woolford allegedly pointed shotgun at another man’s face
The third man told one of the detectives that he saw Woolford grab the woman by the throat and push her into the couch in the living room, and that when he tried to separate them, Woolford “chest bumped” him. He also said that after Woolford fired the shotgun at the second victim, he followed Woolford into the backyard to calm him down, at which time he claimed Woolford pointed the gun at his face. At that point, the third man said, he went back into the front yard.
Woolford appeared in court on Tuesday, Oct. 15, for an arraignment where he pleaded not guilty to the charges against him; he will return to court on Thursday, Oct. 24, for a bond hearing. As of press time, Woolford remained in custody at the Greene County Jail.
