Zella Mae (Carpenter) Brown

Zella Mae (Carpenter) Brown, 84, of Springfield, passed away on Wednesday,
Dec. 9, 2020 in Cox South Hospital in Springfield.
She was born Feb. 22, 1936 in Bloomington, Ind. to George A. Carpenter and
Tressie A. (Helms) Carpenter. She spent her school years in Indiana,
graduating from high school in New Lisbon, Ind. On June 4, 1954, she married
Louis B. Brown in New Lisbon, Ind. They were married for 61 years.
In July 1955, she and Louis moved to Carlsbad, N.M. and established their
home. In 1974, she went to work for Von Burba Agency in Carlsbad and
retired from there in 2007. She was a professional bookkeeper and insurance
agent.
Upon her retirement in 2007, she and Louis moved to Springfield, to be close
to their children and their Indiana family.
Brown was preceded in death by her husband, Louis; parents; three brothers;
Austin, Curtis and Kenneth Carpenter; and one sister, Ruth Deckard.
She is survived by daughter Vickie and husband David Hutson of Battlefield;
daughter Joyce McCullough of Bartlesville, Oka.; son David Brown and his
wife Mindy of Carlsbad, N.M., and stepson Garry Camden and wife Theresa of
Longs, S.C.; five grandchildren, three step grandchildren; and three
“extended” grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren and three great-great-
grandchildren; sister Jean Crafton of Greenfield, Ind., sister Janet Alexander
and husband Robert of Cambridge City, Ind. and sister-in-law Dorothy
Carpenter of Dublin, Ind. and a special friend of over 50 years; Judie Davis of
Springfield.
A celebration of life was at 1 p.m. Monday, Dec. 14, 2020 at Meadors Funeral
Home, Republic. Burial will be at a later date at Walnut Grove Cemetery in
Bloomfield, Ind. Cremation has taken place.
