Greene County prisoner escapes, is recaptured after Springfield manhunt
A Greene County inmate escaped the confines of the Greene County Jail the evening of Monday, May 26, however, was apprehended a short time later after a full on manhunt near the jail.
Greene County Inmate, Nathan L. Sneed, was taken into custody by the Sheriff’s Office Fugitive Apprehension Unit around 11:25 p.m. following his escape. Sneed was being held on 3rd Degree Domestic Assault charges when he manipulated an 8-inch section of fence allowing him to escape.
Greene County Detectives are investigating additional charges against Sneed for “Escape from Custody” which is a Class E Felony and a maximum punishment of 4 years in prison and a fine of $10,000.
The other individual, Jacob F. Atkinson, will also be facing additional charges for Escape from Custody. Atkinson was located quickly with the assistance of the Springfield Police Department.
“We will also be adding additional security features to this area to prevent further attempts of escape,” Sheriff Jim Arnott said.
