Construction of new Greene County Jail proceeds on schedule
The construction of the new Greene County Jail is proceeding as planned, said Donna Barton, public information officer for the Greene County Commission.
“We are on schedule and approximately 28-percent complete,” she said. “As of Oct. 30, we are at Day 219 of 765 total construction days for this project.”
Barton said construction on the project will continue through the winter. While weather can sometimes adversely affect the progress of some projects, Barton said the commission has allowed for that, with 55 adverse weather days built into the jail’s construction schedule.
“We have currently used 15 of those days,” she said.
Sometimes, when a building is being constructed, some alterations have to be made. Barton said there have been some “tweaks” in the new jail’s design, but those are very minor.
“The change that is noteworthy is the addition of a few video courtrooms, which are small rooms to allow for video conferencing,” she said.
Barton also said the credit for the progress being made on the jail building goes to several people.
“We are very proud of the hard work and dedication of everyone involved in this construction,” she said, “but especially the Greene County Resource Management Department and the Advance Team members from the Greene County Sheriff’s Office who remain invaluable in delivering this project all while staying within budget.”
