Seniors Avery Moody and Devon McMillin led the team in scoring during two conference wins at home, first against Branson, then against Carthage.
Republic 57, Branson 43
Republic used an 8-0 run in the third quarter to get some separation from the pesky Pirates at home Tuesday. Moody’s 23 points were a career-high. He and McMillin took turns as leading scorer for Republic throughout the second half, with Moody finally coming out on top. McMillin finished with 22. Ahlante Askew, who dished out assists to Moody and McMillin throughout the night, also scored 16 points.
Branson’s Kyle Scarbrough scored 33 points, including five three-pointers, to keep the Pirates close most of the way.
The Tigers’ balanced attack nearly resulted in three double-doubles in one game. Moody had eight rebounds to go with his 23 points. McMillin also had eight rebounds with his 22-point night. And Askew had 16 points and nine boards, as Republic improved to 13-7 (3-0).
Republic 57, Carthage 40
Republic got even more players involved in a home win against Carthage Saturday, 57-40. Four different players scored at least nine points, led by Moody, who had 15.
Republic allowed just 20 points in each half to a Carthage team that entered the game with a 15-4 record. Republic outscored Carthage 18-9 in the third quarter to push its lead from five points at halftime to 18 points as the fourth quarter started.
Moody was Republic’s leading scorer for a second straight game, with 15 points. McMillin had 13, Askew had 12, and Brenley Hagewood had nine.
