Moreland scores 22 points in final game as Pirate; Ash Grove finishes an impressive 23-4
The incredible season of the Ash Grove High School boys’ basketball team has come to an end, after the Pirates fell to Strafford, 66-52 in the Class 3 Sectional round at Willard on Wednesday, March 1.
The Indians and Pirates went back and forth in the first half with Strafford securing a six-point lead, 33-26, at the half.
Ash Grove continued to battle in the third and fourth quarter but the lead only grew for the solid Strafford ballers. By the final buzzer, the Indians had amassed a 14-point lead for the win.
“Obviously this one didn’t go as we would like but our guys have a lot to be proud of this season,” said head coach Grant Williamson. “They accomplished so many great things. Strafford is a great team and their physicality on both ends of the floor caused some problems at times. Our guys definitely left it all on the floor last night.”
Sam Moreland led Ash Grove with 22 points, Brady Nicholson added 15 points, Brock Mooneyham scored eight points and Nate Trammell ended the game with four points.
The Pirates wrap up the 2021-22 season with an impressive 23-4 record.
