Pirate baseball wins 3 more, earns No. 2 seed in districts

Lady Pirate softball season comes to an end at hands of Fair Grove Lady Eagles
 
The Ash Grove High School baseball team hosted three games last week and came away with three wins.
The Pirates hosted both Diamond and Pleasant Hope on Saturday, May 7, beating Pleasant Hope 3-2 and Diamond 20-0.
On Tuesday, May 3, Ash Grove hosted and shut out Lockwood, 15-0.
The Pirates scored four runs in the second and third innings and ended the game by scoring seven runs in the fourth inning.
“We came out hitting well this game,” said head coach Berrah Brown. “Parker Crow has really been throwing well this season.”
Crow had a great day, as he went 3-4 with three doubles, a run scored and seven RBI’s, as well as being the winning pitcher by going four innings and only allowing one hit and one walk, while striking out eight.
Kaleb Mullins was 1-1 with three runs scored and two RBI’s. Billy Hatch went 1-1 with a double, three runs scored, and an RBI, while Nate Trammell finished the day 1-3 with a double and an RBI.
Ash Grove is now 13-3 on the season and were scheduled to host Jasper on Monday night. The Pirates are the second seed in next week’s Class 2, District 12 tournament in Miller, and will play the winner of the Skyline/Miller contest on Monday, May 16.
The other seeds in the tournament are No. 1 seed Marion C. Early, third-seeded Skyline, fourth-seeded College Heights Christian, fifth-seeded Jasper and sixth-seeded Miller.
Softball
In softball, the season came to an end for the Lady Pirates as they were upset, 3-2, by Fair Grove in the Class 2, District 7 tournament in Pleasant Hope on Saturday, May 7.
On Tuesday, May 3, Ash Grove hosted and beat Verona, 16-1 in three innings.
The Lady Pirates used a 14-run first inning to set the pace and then scored their final two runs in the second inning.
Maddie Mobley got the win, striking out five in the process and only allowing one run. Ashlyn Gerla had two hits, while Madison Lutz and Morgan Crow each had one hit in the game.
Ash Grove finished its season with a 14-11 record.
