BILLY D. HAYTER

Billy D. Hayter, 89, of Walnut Grove died Saturday, Feb. 4, 2023.
Hayter, the son of Howard and Lola (Holman) Hayter, was born on April 10, 1933, in Polk County. On Dec. 25, 1959, Billy and Charlotte Prater were married and shared over 59 years together, before Charlotte’s passing in 2019.
Hayter was a lifelong area resident. He graduated from Dadeville High School in 1951. As a teenager, he was saved and baptized in Turkey Creek. He and Charlotte raised their family on their farm in Walnut Grove and Billy also worked for MoDOT, retiring after 26 years.  
Hayter is survived by his children, Doug Hayter and wife Sonya, Brenda Keyser and husband Greg, Brad Hayter and wife Michelle, Scott Hayter and wife Clara, Cheryl Steeley and husband Stan; 14 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren, other family and many friends.
Hayter was preceded in death by his wife Charlotte Hayter; parents; siblings Junior Hayter, Johnny Hayter, Wilbur Hayter, and Rosalie Hill.
Visitation was Tuesday, Feb. 7, 2023, from 5-7 p.m. at Wilson-Griffin Funeral Home, Walnut Grove. Graveside services will be Wednesday, Feb. 8, 2023, at 10 a.m. at Turkey Creek Cemetery, Walnut Grove.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made in Hayter’s name to Turkey Creek Cemetery and may be left at the funeral home.
