Republic locals get tour of new city hall at ribbon cutting

The new city hall was made available to the public after the ribbon cutting on Wednesday, March 18. Citizens were invited to tour the chambers in this open house-style event. Also as part of the festivities, the city hosted a Q and A with the new city administrator, Colten Harris who was hired in December. 
 
The new building was a long time coming said Franklin. He stated that the new office was built with citizen convenience in mind, where once citizens may have had to make multiple treks across town to accomplish a simple task with the city, now everything can be done in one building. 
 
“I mean, we’ve been waiting a long time for something like this; to be able to have all of our services under one roof,” said Franklin. “[We are able] to have a citizen come in and they don’t have to go downtown for one thing and then come over here for another thing, just to go downtown.”
 
In total, the city had to save for a decade in order to afford the new $6 million building located at 4221 S. Wilson's Creek Blvd., not wanting to ask the taxpayers for more than they already do. 
 
“We’ve had a lot of positions that we haven’t been able to fill over time.” Said Franklin. “So we’ve been able to save that and eventually accumulated enough to be able to pay for this without taking a loan out.”
