Three fatal crashes recorded in four days across Greene County
Three fatal motor vehicle collisions have taken place over the course of a week in Greene County. Of the three of these crashes, two of them fatally injured motorcyclists.
Three crashes, one killing a Bois D’Arc man on April 22, another killing a man in Republic on April 19, and the last killing a man one mile northwest of Willard on April 21, were recorded less than three days apart.
The first of these crashes took place in Republic on April 19. The man, Christian Gaba, was riding a motorcycle at the intersection of U.S. Highway 60 and Hampton Avenue in Republic when he collided with the back of a car. Speed reportedly played a part in the fatal incident. The driver of the other vehicle in the collision was not injured.
The second crash took place on April 21, one mile northwest of Willard. The crash killed a 68-year-old man from Springfield. According to a report from the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the man, driving a 2012 Honda Gold Wing motorcycle, attempted to pass a Ford van as it was turning left. The man struck the vehicle and was sent off the roadway and flipped. The incident proved fatal, as the 68-year-old man was pronounced dead at Mercy Hospital in Springfield on April 23 after being transported to the facility via ambulance. The driver of the van was uninjured.
The final incident took place on Highway 13 seven miles north of Springfield, this time killing a 71-year-old man from Bois D’ Arc. The man was driving a 1993 Silverado on Highway 13 when he came across a stationary International semi truck, colliding with the rear of the vehicle at about 12:45 a.m. The 71-year-old was taken by EMS to the Mercy Hospital in Springfield, where he was pronounced dead at 1:57 a.m. The other driver sustained no injuries.
