Republic wins two medals at state track meet

Republic's Alaina Norman and Devon McMillin each earned a medal during a busy two days of competition at the Class 5 state track and field meet in Jefferson City. Nine other Republic athletes competed but did not finish high enough to earn an all-state designation or the accompanying medal.

Hauck Coaching Tenure Ends in District Loss

Kickapoo scored six second-half goals on its home field to pull away in an 8-0 win over Republic in the district semifinals. The loss ended the coaching career of Kevin Hauck, who will step away from the sidelines to become an assistant principal at Republic next year.

Republic Athletes Qualify for State in Ten Events

Republic will send 11 athletes to the state track meet in Jefferson City in ten events. Five of the 11 qualified in two events at the sectional meet in Waynesville Monday. The meet had been postponed from Saturday because of storms.

Nixa Comes from Behind to Eliminate Republic

Republic jumped to a 4-0 lead before Nixa even had a chance to bat in the district semifinals, but the state-ranked Eagles had just enough time to claw their way back. Nixa overcame a four-run deficit to knock off Republic 5-4 in the district semifinals at Joplin.

Frey Finishes Career at State Golf Tournament

Republic senior Griffin Frey shot a final-round 80 to finish with a two-day total of 165 at the Class 5 state golf tournament at Dalhousie Golf Club in Cape Girardeau. Frey opened the tournament with an 85. His two-day score tied him for 54th in the 83-golfer field.

Tigers open baseball districts with victory

Joplin managed just two base hits against Cole Iles and Republic knocked off Joplin on its home field in the opener of the district tournament Monday, 5-0. Iles struck out four batters and walked two in a complete-game shutout.
