In volleyball, the Lady Pirates hosted two games last week against Stockton and Greenfield.
On Thursday, Sept. 5, the Lady Pirates lost in straight sets to Stockton, 15-25 and 17-25.
The Willard High School boys soccer team traveled to Sedalia Aug. 30-31 to take part in their tournament and came home with a second place finish.
Willard fell to Sedalia Smith-Cotton in the tournament championship, 2-0, on Aug. 31.
The 2019 football season began for Willard High School on Aug. 30, as the Tigers traveled to Class 6, fifth ranked, Joplin but fell to the Eagles, 36-13.
The 2019 season is underway for the Ash Grove High School football team as they hosted Diamond on Aug. 30 and came away with a big 44-12 win.
“We had a great night on defense,” said head coach Ryan Long. “And a great night moving the ball on the ground.”
The final sport at Willard High School came to an end on Saturday, June 1, as the Willard High School baseball team captured third place in the Class 5 state baseball playoff at O’Fallon, knocking off Staley, 8-2.
After last week’s games, the Willard High School baseball team is just two wins away from being crowned Class 5 state champions. The Tigers knocked off Webb City in the sectional round and Glendale in the quarterfinals to advance to this weekend’s Class 5 Final Four.
Republic competed in two events in the Class 5 state track meet Saturday in Columbia, but fell short of the medal stand in both. The top finish for Republic was by Jasmyn Douglas in the 800-meter run. She finished 11th with a time of 2:25.03.
Finley Chastain, daughter of Ash Grove native Shawn Chastain, was successful in defending her national title at the Junior NBA National Championship 3-on-3 competition.
The Willard High School baseball team continues to roll as they knocked off both Raymore-Peculiar and Lee’s Summit West to win the Class 5, District 12 title last week in Lee’s Summit.
Republic’s track and field team qualified for state in two events this year — and sophomore Jasmyn Douglas is a part of both of them. Douglas first qualified as a member of the 4x800m relay team, which finished fourth at sectionals in Waynesville.
