The 2019 girls golf season has come to end for Willard High School, as three members came up just short at the sectional round on Monday, Oct. 8, in Joplin.
Republic hosted Marshfield on its home turf in a non-conference tune-up for the stretch run of the season, winning 4–0. A four-minute stretch helped the Tigers put the game away. Leading 1–0 in the second half, Republic scored three goals in a little over three and a half minutes.
Fourth down conversions were the secret weapon for Carthage Friday in a 42–26 win at Republic. Carthage scored touchdowns on four different fourth-down plays in building a 42–13 lead, then held off a late comeback attempt by Republic.
A 5–0 deficit in the district championship game turned out to be just as surmountable as all the other deficits the Lady Tigers have faced throughout the 2018 season.
The Ash Grove Lady Pirates hosted the Sarcoxie Lady Bears Sept. 20, but lost in straight sets 17-25 and 13-25. Emily Martin led Ash Grove with four digs; Allison Duncan had 11 assists, Kindell Coambes had six kills and Olivia Steimel and Briley Bagley each had one block kill.
Republic softball picked up two more wins, one against conference rival Willard, and one at Bolivar against one of the best pitchers in southwest Missouri. In between, Republic suffered a walk-off loss at Kickapoo.
Republic soccer started its week with a game that will go down in the history books. Hosting Willard, the teams were tied 3–3 after regulation, and still tied 3–3 after two 10-minute overtime periods.
Ashley White medaled and the Republic golf team turned in a strong performance at the Pearson Invitational at Horton Smith Golf Course. White shot a career-best 80 to lead Republic. That put her in fifth place among individuals.
The Lady Tigers volleyball team won its first conference win of the year on the road Tuesday. Republic knocked off Neosho 25–21, 26–24. Rylee Moseman turned in a big performance, leading the team in three categories.
